Dear Seton Catholic Community,
There have been six confirmed cases of a bacterial skin infection called impetigo and the cases are isolated to Seton’s football team. There are also five additional possible cases within the football team that have been referred for further medical examination. Seton has notified student-athletes and their parents who have been possibly exposed. Tomorrow night’s football game versus Benjamin Franklin High School has been cancelled.
Here are a few suggestions to limit exposures:
- To help prevent the spread, make sure that your student does regular self-checks, all clothing and apparel are washed thoroughly and regularly to help ensure general cleanliness.
- If a student or parent should see an abnormal lesion/sore on their skin, they should seek medical attention.
- If infected, Seton Catholic will require the student to remain home until 48 hours after the first dose of antibiotics and the student will need a completed return to school form from a physician before coming back to class. The student will also need to have the sores covered until completely healed.
The school contracted a service to disinfect all affected areas and you are encouraged to monitor your son or daughter for possible symptoms of impetigo. Please notify the school trainer ([email protected]) if your child develops signs of infection and have them see a doctor for further evaluation.
