Seton Catholic Prep Coach Karen Self and her nationally ranked girls’ basketball team are in the midst of another successful season. In addition to being a great coach, Self is also a respected teacher who has been recognized for her work in the classroom, including being named 2015 Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Council on Economic Education. A couple of years ago, AZSports and Lifestyle magazine printed her 10 tips to get students motivated for academic and athletic success. At the ’16 Track and Field Division III state finals, Luke Zuluaga and his relay teammates were in fifth place when he got the baton and “hit the turbo button for an unbelievable come-from-behind win,” as described by ESPN. Luke’s incredible speed burst captured the 4 x 100-meter relay crown, among other titles his senior year.
